    Stardate SI (South Island): Friday 17th – Monday 20th February 2017 - Stardate SI will be held at a "Christian" hostel and camp at Staveley between Friday February Friday 17th to Monday 20th February 2017. Organiser Euan Mason writes, ‘There's nothing particularly religious about Stardate, although Phil Barker reports a religious experience when he views the cosmos through his twin brother Kevin's 5" Zeiss refractor. Come and join us for this magnificent celebration of astronomy, science, and the cosmos at large’.

    Stardate SI has the following schedule:
    • Start - Friday February 17th
    • Registration - from 3:30 pm
    • Speakers - Fri 8 pm to 9 pm
    • Viewing - Fri night
    • Speakers - 10 am to 11 am
    • Soapbox - 11 am to noon
    • Group photograph - noon
    • Update on SI astronomical organistions - 12:30-1 pm
    • Free time and solar observing workshops - 1 to 5 pm
    • Trade table - 5 to 6 pm
    • Telescope walk - 6 pm
    • Pot luck tea Saturday - 7 to 9 pm
    • Viewing - Sat night
    • Speakers - Sunday 10 am - 12:30 pm
    • Packup - Sunday or Monday at noon (depending on registrations)

    Hi Everyone,

    Stardate SI will be held at Staveley between February 17th and 20th. Ian Griffin, of Otago Museum, is our special guest this year. Ian is well known for his superb talks.

    Join us for a festival of the cosmos. Reconnect with old friends, make new ones. Enjoy looking through the huge range of astronomical gear that people bring to this fabulous event. This is your Stardate.

    Good to see everyone, the night sky didn't behave on the Friday and Saturday I was there, and, I thought it would be the same on Sunday night but I had gone home.... Pleased it was a clear night for those still there, but, I still enjoyed it very much hanging out with astro buddies, more like extended family... :)
