Earth Hour Skywatching – For those who prefer to be outside on the night of “Earth Hour” Saturday March 19th, there is the opportunity to view the moon and stars at the R.F. Joyce Memorial Observatory, Bell’s Road, West Melton. Gates open at 8.00pm.

Instead of the usual fee of $10 for adults and $7 for children, the Canterbury Astronomical Society will ask only a gold coin donation. Check our facebook page or the website for cancellations if the weather is not suitable.

If you are registered on our website you can use the RSVP to indicate attendance. Opening will be dependant on the weather, so please check back here before heading out to the observatory. We will post a status update before 7:45pm as to whether we are open or not.

You may also watch the event for notifications and question, comment or feedback below.

The weather for this event is looking promising. A nice little cloud hole forming on the 7pm weather chart - website members, click on the thumbnail to enlarge.
