Apologies for the late notice but we had to make sure that we were going to be able to get into Room ER225 at University of Canterbury given that we are now in Level 2. We will take every care necessary to ensure your safety at this venue and ask that you stay at home if you are feeling poorly.

This talk by Graham should inspire your interest in aurora. Hopefully we are moving out of solar minimum and should start seeing the beginnings of sunspots signalling the start of the aurora season. We have all been hanging out for the return of the new solar cycle and Graham’s talk will refresh our memories of what makes up an aurora.

Any chance to try and broadcast this?  Just a thought :).

Edit:  One could ask Wellington, WAS, and Auckland, AAS, what they do.  Though AAS still has to get the sound thing sorted.

No sorry Trace. At this stage we aren’t looking to video any of our talks. It may come to that later on but not at the present. I heard this talk by Graham many years ago and it is fantastic. He has updated it for this talk. Maybe we can persuade him to give it at Stardate.

    Hi everyone,

YES! We have managed to organise for the meeting to be on Zoom.

The link will be posted here soon.

    8pm Tuesday 18th

The university is still open for small meetings like this, under level 2, and everyone is still most welcome to attend (room in Carol’s message above), but for those preferring more social distancing, the talk will also be streamed on Zoom.

I enjoyed seeing some familiar faces! Alas I ran out of time and did not prepare thoroughly enough for this one. There were clearly those present who could have done it better. Would be keen to listen to some of those with more expertise in ionospheric phenomena. Years ago I built a whistler receiver but have had no luck so expert advice needed.
