I’m participating in a Messier Marathon event from 10pm to midnight tonight (assuming meteoblue isn’t lying to me about the clouds). This is part of Unistellar’s eVscope “World’s Largest Messier Marathon.” There are various challenges & I’ve decided to attempt the “as many Messier galaxies in 2 hours.” My goal is 24. A challenge as they are all lowish in the sky & I am looking across the city. If anyone want to join me, they are welcome. I’ll be in the empty lot opposite 3 Gosforth Way, Westmorland.

I’ve attempted messier marathons before. Not all objects are visible from here, but some 90 or so are, depending on how good your horizon is. The most I’ve got in a night is about 50, and by then the bed started looking really good 🙂 I rationalised it with the idea of quarterly “mini marathons” since more objects are visible if you observe throughout the year. This hasn’t really happened, but I’ve done a few messier sessions at different times of year. Perhaps we could do something like this at CAS.
Have Fun! Time zones and many observers will make the EVscope marathon more sleep friendly and lots of fun!
