Committee have decided that we need improved security for access to the observatory equipment.
From now all keys are stored in a lock box in the library. Any accredited member will be given the combination (just ask me). This includes the key to the equipment room and for the dobs. Although the dobs do not require formal accreditation, they are precision instruments that can be damaged if not used correctly. A member accredited on any of the scopes can open these for you.
Members still have free access to the lodge and its facilities, but any other access will require an accredited person to be present.
Any accredited member can get access to the keys, but of course can only use (or supervise) the instrument they are accredited for.
This sounds a bit restrictive, but has become necessary due to recent misuse and possible damage to some instruments.
