There’s a total Lunar Eclipse next Wednesday night – 26 May.

Start of partial umbral eclipse: 9:45pm

    Total eclipse: 11:11pm-11:26pm

End of partial umbral eclipse: 12:52pm

Photographers may want to attempt to capture the gradual dimming of the penumbral shadow. This is pretty hard to see visually.

The penumbral eclipse starts at 8:48pm.

I’ll be at the observatory if it’s clear and we’ll have the telescopes open to view the eclipse.

This is just a members gathering, not a public event. Members guests are welcome as always.

Of course you can see the eclipse from anywhere, naked eye, but the view through binoculars or a telescope will be pretty good!

The last time we got a view of a total lunar eclipse from the observatory was 2014!

I’ll post here with weather updates on the day. Fingers crossed!

    Rob

What a wonderful sight it was out at CAS. Hope others got good views. Conditions were just shy of perfect…the dew was a bit frustrating but nothing the trusty hair dryer in the 11 couldn’t sort. I look forward to all the photos from the busily clicking cameras around me. It was great! Thanks, P

Cameron, Great pictures of the Milky Way alongside the eclipsing moon…I especially like how you wanted to get a closer look at the moon and instead of looking thru the 120, projected the moon onto the dome wall? 🤔 Great captures tho

Thanks Preetha & Cameron. Now I recall the camera set up.

Yes the milky way shot with the eclipse and the 5m dome all red looks amazing!

Hmm, projecting the moon? Might be worth a try on an open night?
