    Hi All,

The record rainfall over the past 2 weeks has left the observatory site needing some urgent repair work to avoid future flooding risks.

This year has seen the flooding at its worst with water in the car park area almost at the lodge door. Additionally the grass is saturated and any traffic on it would mean a slip hazard to visitors and/or damage to the grass which we need to avoid. A couple of the domes/shed saw water ingress and our bonfire is rather soggy too!

Kieren, our obs director, and team will be carrying out emergency ground works by the main entrance on Saturday which will no doubt leave the driveway muddy and unsuitable for foot traffic. The forecast on Saturday night is also for more rain.

With this in mind committee has decided to postpone the BBQ/bonfire until 20 Aug which would be our next members social night at the obs.

This will give us time to dry out, complete repairs and the mud is clear away.

We look forward to seeing you there on the 20th.

    Thanks

    Simon
    CAS Vice President
