Chester Hall-Fernandez
Chester will share with you his most recent project at Mount John Observatory, where he designed and built the observatory all-sky camera. All-sky cameras are weather proof cameras that are constantly monitoring the sky 24/7, allowing astronomers to monitor the sky. He also developed a specialized cloud detection software for his computer vision class, which is able to produce a ‘cloud map’ for the sky. This allows astronomers to take historical data for the all-sky camera, and use it to figure out long term cloud cover trends. Chester will go into the problems and solutions he came across working on this program.
