Hi Folks, Yes it’s that time again, it’s cold and wet and most definitely feeling like winter outside, so it must be time for our annual
Canterbury Astronomical Society Mid-Winter BBQ.
You are cordially invited to come along, enjoy a mug of mulled wine or cocoa around the bonfire, enjoy some food, light music and a chat with your fellow CAS members.
It’s also a great chance to meet your 2018 CAS committee, catch up on what’s been happening at the Observatory and hear what we have planned for the rest of this winter.
Where: RF Joyce Observatory
When: 5 pm till late – Saturday 23rd June 2018
BBQ starts at 5.30 pm, followed by lighting of the fire and marshmallow toasting!
We will supply the sausages, burgers and bread as well as a copious supply of tomato sauce!
We will have a vegetarian option, some slices of pizza and a range of savouries to sample.
We would ask that you bring a share plate for dessert, some salad or sides such as chips, dips, bread, biccies, cakes or muffins, choccies, marshmallows etc….. the ‘normal’ BBQ fodder!
If the weather co-operates we will have some telescopes operating after dark until till we are ready to light the bonfire – hopefully we will get a fine night and then we can drag some chairs out round the bonfire, toast some marshmallows and enjoy the night skies.
So wrap up warm, pull on those gummies and come enjoy an evening at the Observatory.
Please ask if you have any questions, please feel free to ask here in the forum.
Kind regards
Your CAS Committee

Preetha SreedharanParticipantTo the organising committee,
I’d like to voice a few concerns about last night’s events – it was just way too much fun. I am not sure what your mandate for these events are but just the yummy food, meeting the crew of the SOFIA and everyone else, the dramatic lighting of the bonfire was just over the top…you may need to tone this down as now expectations are set quite high for the next one!
Great job guys 😀 and thanks so very much for all the effort…and Terry’s eyebrows

Karen WillsParticipantYes Preetha, agree with your comments, Simon our web master spending most of the night cooking yummy food for us, Terry giving us a flaming good time. I am grateful to him for warming up my cold feet in such a dramatic fashion. Wonder what he has planned for next year. Thanks to the committee for all the hard work in making the evening a success.

Simon LewisKeymasterhahaha challenge accepted !!!!
This committee were determined to make it a banging success – perhaps Terry took that literally with the sonic boom lighting the bonfire .. sorry about the need for a change of undies!
Glad you all enjoyed it … we sure did and the SOFIA crew seemed to as well 🙂
Keep us on at AGM time and we promise we will give next year as good a go as this one!
just wait till the summer BBQ 😉
Seriously the SOFIA crew must think we are mad – BBQing in sub zero temps lol
Cheers
Simon
