This year, the North Otago Astronomical Society will be holding their “Stargazers’ Getaway” star party from 7-9th September 2018, at Camp Iona, near Herbert, just south of Oamaru.

This has been the site a many previous “Herbert” star parties. Many of us have fond memories of the clear dark skies and great atmosphere of the Herbet. It’s great to see North Otago taking this wonderful event on!

Camp Iona is a well-appointed camp with the following facilities:

    • Full toilet & showers
    • Bunkrooms
    • An auditorium
    • Kitchens with shared fridges and freezers
    • Plenty of space for tents and caravans
    • The viewing area has excellent horizons in all directions, and space (no pun intended) for many telescopes.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful, with  fine walks through beech forests – we recommend you restrict the walks to daytime
