Marc BunyanParticipantHi All,
I’m looking to get accredited on the scopes on-site, starting with the eq6/refractor – I turned up on Friday night as it was clear hoping that someone could assist in this regard but unfortunately luck wasn’t on my side.
As I was leaving I saw that other members were turning up – I’d hoped that members would check the forums for users looking for assistance before arriving on site? (perhaps a sub forum section on assistance requests?)
Would it be easier if I arranged any night with someone to walk me through the setup even if its cloudy etc?
any advice would be appreciated.

AnonymousInactiveThe best way is to show up to open nights and members nights, That way you can watch members use the scopes and run them yourself. When you feel confident you can arrange with Terry (the observatory director) to have a little test on the scope you want to be accredited on and if all goes well you’ll be good to go!

AnonymousInactiveIf all goes well I’ll make a first visit this Friday, to meet everyone and maybe get some info on the scopes and possibilities for photography as well.

AnonymousInactiveHopefully the weather allows it but yeah Friday would be a great time to come out, should be lots of people there to show you how to use the scopes

AnonymousInactiveWeather doesn’t look too good for Friday, but even if it is cloudy, will there still be people around?

AnonymousInactiveCheck on the day, it will be posted on the website and on the Facbeook page if the open night is closed or not. If it is closed then no one will be there. Keep looking on the forums to see if anyone is going to the observatory at any time. I’m sure most will be happy to help

AnonymousInactiveSuperb, would love to learn and also help out others after that. This Friday I guess is not going to happen, given all models agree on rain. I subscribed to the topics here so will check regularly.
Thanks! Vincent

AnonymousInactiveYeah it’s not looking good for tomorrow. Hopefully the last couple open nights of the year are okay

AnonymousInactiveWould it be an idea to just meet up even when there’s no open day at the site? Just for more people that would like to meet you guys/girls and learn about the equipment?

AnonymousInactiveYeah if there’s going to be people there. I’ll be honest, I’m not as brave as Gary and don’t like being out there alone all night so when I go I try arrange others to be there haha. Sunday is looking clear at the moment so I might see if anyone wants to go then. Problem with our hobby is not staying up too late so we can still work in the morning!

AnonymousInactiveYeah I agree, I got spoiled with my automated rig at home. 🙂 I’m at home at the moment, taking care of my kids, but can fairly easily go there in the evenings and weekends. So if you or anyone doesn’t want to be there alone, I’m all for learning and would gladly join.
