Me, Gary and Andrei were also drawn out there with the promise of a clear night.
Fog and low cloud seems to often sweep over in the evening, sometimes clearing much later. It happens all too often on the open nights. Maybe it’s because it’s near the river? It seems to be a fairly foggy and damp area. I wonder how recent this pattern is. I gather that way back when they choose the site they did a lot of site testing. You’d think they would have noticed it if this was happening back then.
It often seem that the fog is only a few 10s of meter thick. Maybe we need a really long telescope 🙂
