O.K,– couple of nights ago, my computer said clear sky tonight,-looked out side and Yes, lovely and clear.. Me thinks, ‘I shall pack up my gear and head out to the observatory for a happy night of viewing’… But NO ! as I got closer to W.M the sky started to disappear and was replaced by cloud cover.. A little further on and, Sod-It,-no stars!!! Back home I travel, the sky starts to clear, so, dodging the lights, I do some viewing from home.. What is it with W.M, at times, it seems to have it’s own weather…. I was Not a happy camper!

Me, Gary and Andrei were also drawn out there with the promise of a clear night.
Fog and low cloud seems to often sweep over in the evening, sometimes clearing much later. It happens all too often on the open nights. Maybe it’s because it’s near the river? It seems to be a fairly foggy and damp area. I wonder how recent this pattern is. I gather that way back when they choose the site they did a lot of site testing. You’d think they would have noticed it if this was happening back then.
It often seem that the fog is only a few 10s of meter thick. Maybe we need a really long telescope 🙂
Yeah, fog always seems to get thinner as you leave so seems like it is centred on the Observatory. Maybe we angered the gods
C’est la vie. Never mind Heather, there’s always another day, or in our case, another night. I do most of my star gazing at home although I do miss the company and helpful comments of our members. And well Winter is only about six months away. Keep looking skyward, wish on a falling star for clear skies.
