    CAS is joining in the celebrations at Spacebase’s “World Space Week” at the library in Christchurch this week.

    Moon and rocket exhibits during the week. Exciting workshops on Weds 7 Oct 2-6pm.

    Workshops are on Level 4 of the Turanga Christchurch Library:

    2-4 pm. Antarctic Centre – Space Shuttle Building Workshop – Facilitation Space

    2-4 pm. Chch Rocketeers – Rocket design workshop – Production Studio

    4-5 pm. Seequent – Show and Tell SLIMS lakes health app – Facilitation Space/Production studio

    4-6 pm. UC Aerospace – Intro to Kerbal – PC Lab

    4-6 pm . Canterbury Astronomy Society – Telescopes Show and Tell – Facilitation Space/Production studio

    4-5 pm. Canterbury Astronomy Society – Intro to Amateur Astronomy – Facilitation Space/Production studio

    5-6 pm. Canterbury Astronomy Society – Intro to Astrophotography – Facilitation Space/Production studio

     

    Come along and learn about how to get involved with Astronomy from your own backyard – even in the city!

    CAS President, Rob Glassey, will run a session on how you can get started, what gear to buy (and what not to buy!) and you can find out how being a CAS member can help you get involved in practical astronomy at our observatory at West Melton.

    Ever wanted to photograph the night skies and create some stunning pictures for your wall or your instagram page? Simon Lewis, CAS Vice-President, will run a session on how to get started in astrophotography with your home DSLR and how to create those stunning images you see online using free or low cost software.

    CAS members will be around to talk about all kind of astronomical topics so come along and chat about the varied activities we get up to at CAS, Terry our Observatory Director will even show you how to listen to the sound of Jupiter!

    Interested then join us between 1-6pm on Weds 7 Oct at the Tūranga Library for an afternoon out of this world!
