    News Update & Society Activities
    CAS (e-MAG) 2020

    Hi All,

Dale is taking a well earned break and so this months CASMAG will be via this email newsletter, so  a little shorter than the voluminous issues that Dale prepares!

Its been a crazy few months for CAS with some of the committee directly affected by the fall out of COVID-19 and others by personal circumstances, these have had quite a toll on some of us on committee.

I know a number of you have also been affected by this event and our thoughts are with you and your families during these difficult times.

We had all looked forward to seeing CAS active again post lock down and no sooner had we come out of lock down,  we were thrown headlong into Kidfest, which came as a bit of shock as we understood it was going to be an online event!

Oh well! The team jumped into action and we gathered our ever helpful band of volunteers and started into our 2020 winter season of public open nights.  Sadly its been a horrible winter for cloud and we only managed to get a few nights of Kidsfest under our belt this year but, as always, the kids loved it which is the aim of the event.

We had just managed to get our first face to face committee meeting organised and we were mid meeting when we got a shout that there was going to be some announcement from the PM. Seriously!

And so here we are again with the situation changing and Level 2 restrictions re implemented.  Committee have re-established a small sub committee to manage the response and we are monitoring things closely.

UC access to their buildings remains in place at this time, meaning we can still do our monthly meeting but to allow remote attendance we have created a Zoom online meeting for those who wish to join that way.

Of course we had a number of other events planned so please see the info call out below and please keep a regular eye on the website for updates as things will change quickly!

Just a reminder that while our finances remain healthy and committee has been managing expenditure closely, we do rely heavily on member renewals – so please remain as members during this time as we all focus on trying to get through these difficult times. Having said that, we understand COVID19 maybe impacting you and we ask if you have issues paying memberships for example you please reach out to us and let us help.

Finally – A big welcome to all the new members.

Thanks for your patience in these trying times.

Kind regards – Your CAS Committee
    Please Note!
There are some requirements for hygiene and use of the log in the observatory if visiting. This is extremely important so that we can keep a trace on who is using the observatory and protect you, our observatory teams and our membership. Your help is required to ensure we remain as safe as possible. Please read the instructions in the lodge re hygiene before use.

    UC Meeting 18 August

The room will be open but physical distancing will be in place and Orlon will be doing a spray and wipe at the start of the meeting.

Public Open nights 21 and 28 Aug
These two events are cancelled and we will announce when open nights can recommence (depending on government advice on Friday).

Members Night and Mid Winter BBQ – Change In Dates!!!
The L2 restrictions mean that we have had to move members night on 22nd to the 29th August.
This will be subject to any changes from the governments announcement on Friday.
So please stay tuned to the CAS website.

Thanks Simon, just wondered if there is a FB page for members? What is the best way to keep up to date with notifications and events? Is this website the best place? Thanks

yes best place is here – FB page is public facing only.

We used to have a members one but people post in the wrong places so we removed the members one.

You can click the box at the bottom of this page and get notified of postings by email

    cheers

    Simon
