Terry RichardsonModeratorI am sure a few members have been looking at comet Leonard.
I thought I would publish my image and hope some others can contribute here. Its not a competition (I am sure people have better images than mine but it is one to put in my album). Rather it would be interesting to see what perspective different members have and what equipment was used.
This image was taken through Celestron C8 using Canon 500dD (Astro modified) 60 second exposure unguided as you can see from the stars. Was not sure whether to guide or not since the comet is also moving. Clouded over before I could try it.
What have others done to get pictures?

Interesting to reflect on why comets are green.. Due to C-N and C-C bonds in gas from the core of the comet stimulated by UV light and emitting in the green band.
Any other pictures or thoughts?
Cheers
Terry

John PickeringParticipantGreat idea Terry. I have enjoyed seeing this change and sharing it with some. Here is a series of 2 to 4min shots with the eVscope and no post processing.

Marc BunyanParticipantGreat images all!
I grabbed this and stacked with my ZWO 533 on my William Optics z73/430mm doublet – was 15 x 30 sec if I recall correctly.

…I then killed it with PixInsight 🙂
(and yes, my camera is never the same way each time I use it..hah)

Cameron McEwingParticipantWow, those are some fantastic images. I’ve been imaging untracked/unguided with a DSLR. It has been a bit of challenge getting the comet in the FOV with longer lenses, but well worth the effort. Here are a couple of my images…

Canon 6D, Sigma Art 35mm @ f/2.5, 40 x 8 seconds, ISO 3200

Canon 650D, Sigma DG APO 70-300mm @ f/5.6 & 480mm (FF equiv.), 187 x 1.6sec stacked, ISO 12,800

Terry RichardsonModeratorNice perspective Cameron. I thought we might get some interesting pictures. Nice mix of technical and artistic.
Marc, how did you stack your pictures? I have 30 images but DSS would only stack N=1. I think this is because of unguided star trails. Am I missing a trick here?
