Rob GlasseyModeratorIn case you haven’t seen the Facebook posts, there is a talk at the Transitional Cathedral tomorrow (Wednesday) about the Transit of Mercury and Captain Cook’s first visit to NZ to observe it.
Transitional Cathedral
Cnr Hereford and Madras St
Talks start at 6pm – Wednesday 6 November
Speakers:
Dr Nick Rattenbury – Auckland university.
Prof Emma Bunce – principle investiator for the Bepi Columbo mission to Mercury
Ass Prof Karen Pollard – University of Canterbury
Ockie Simmonds – Maori Astronomy
We will also be there with scopes and images, literally flying the CAS flag! Helpers welcome. We’re mostly just talking to the public about what we do at CAS.
If it’s clear we’ll be viewing the sun, but more likely we’ll be inside with a display.

Should be a good night!
P.S. We have quality waterproof CAS stickers too – $2.50 each to cover printing costs.
