Members of recognised Astronomical Societies can be granted permission by the Director General of Health to import and own a Laser.

There is now a document and a link to Ministry of health website for those who wish to import lasers for personal use.

There are also guidelines for use of the lasers at the observatory (or anywhere).

The document is available in the download section of the website,

Download the document and click on the link to the MOH website to download the application form.

Any questions I can answer here.

    Regards

    Terry

    Further to above,

Astronz market high power lasers which they can sell you as long as you have documentation of membership. This is available from CAS secretary.

They are reasonably priced and if you identify your membership of CAS the society gets a 10% rebate.

    Cheers

    Hi,

I need a CAS letter confirming my membership to support purchase of a laser pointer from Astronz. Do I contact the secretary or the membership secretary? I sent an email to membership but no reply so was wondering if I’d sent it to the wrong person..hmmm

    Hi Preetha,

Dale used to do this (she had a form made up) as sectretary.

Now it should be membership secretary as they hold the proof of your membership.

I would suggest contact Marc, and if necessary he can write the letter himself or confirm your membership with the secretary (David Hill)

    Cheers

    Terry
