Carol McAlaveyModeratorDEEP SPACE EXPLORATION WITH ARTEMIS
Presented by Tim Atkins, NASA Senior Engineer and UC Erskine Fellow
Tim will present a vision of space exploration and discuss the recent successful launch of Artemis 1 from Kennedy Space Centre in late 2022. After this launch, the Orion spacecraft completed two flybys of the moon (on 21 November and 5 December) before splashing down in the Pacific Ocean on 11 December. A crewed flyby is scheduled for 2025, followed by a lunar landing. The aim of the programme is do make new scientific discoveries, demonstrate new technologies, and lay the foundation for a permanent lunar presence to enable exploration of Mars in the next few decades.

Carol McAlaveyModeratorHi Sasha, the talk is tomorrow night. Sorry, missed putting the date. It finishes at 8 and it will be a mad dash, along with our speaker, John Hearnshaw, to get to Room 225, ER for his talk to start at 8.15pm.

Carol McAlaveyModeratorHi Robert, sorry, I was having a moment when I put this notification up. The talk was on Tuesday night, 15th August, just before our own meeting. I got the details only just before the event hence the rushed blurb and forgetting to put the date.
