Terry RichardsonModeratorSelwyn council have planned a Matariki celebration at 6 AM on the Saturday morning at the Rolleston Community Centre, 94 Rolleston Drive. They expect numbers of public to be 50 to 150.
They have asked us (and we have agreed) to help with a few astronomers.
The plan is to take some dobs (they already have 2) depending on how many astronomers will come.
I know this is early in the morning and a holiday weekend but any helpers gratefully accepted. We may or may not see Matariki but there are lots of planets to see (remember those?)
Can anyone help please.

Rob GlasseyModeratorIt should be a great event! I’d love to be there, but I’m away unfortunately.
It a great chance to see all the planets at the same time. Uranus and Neptune should be easy in Binos. Pluto will be up, but would require imaging. An EV scope would do it ๐
Have fun!

Gary SteelParticipantThose who know what a night owl I am will find it difficult to believe that I’m volunteering to get up at friggin’ 4:30.
OK, Terry, I’m in, but someone better have illegal-strength coffee on hand… ๐

Terry RichardsonModeratorThanks Gary and Dale. I am very grateful.
I think I can be confident that we can do it well now.
The organisers have 2 dobs and I will bring 2 from the observatory
Gather at the Rolleston Community centre from 5 am (starts at 6)ย 94 Rolleston Drive. Just past supermarket.
Lions will be there with breakfast (free for us) I presume coffee as well.
Cheers
Terry
