    PROFESSOR WAYNE ORCHISTON

UNDER A WIDE AND STARRY SKY: The Remarkable Record of Amateur Astronomy in Aotearoa/New Zealand.

Wayne will discuss the international reputation that Aotearoa/New Zealand acquired through its very active amateur astronomical community in the late nineteenth century and throughout the twentieth century, particularly in areas like cometary, double star and variable star astronomy. The choice of astronomers and observatories discussed will partly be determined by the location of the lecture.

THIS LECTURE IS BEING BROUGHT TO YOU WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF THE GIFFORD-EIBY MEMORIAL LECTURESHIP SCHEME administered by the Royal Astronomical Society of New Zealand.
