I have decided the HEQ5 will be better for me, although slightly thinner legs I believe the overall performance for dso’s is better, as well as working with EQMOD. I currently have a less than ideal 114mm f4 newtonian but will be upgrading the the Explore Scientific ed80mm triplet in the coming months so although being a smaller mount it should handle these scopes. Also will be buying the mount from Bintel, including shipping, total cost is around $1600 NZD
Would love to hear opinions on this decision

Dave BrianParticipantHi Josh, The HEQ5 pro is a very versatile mount and I don’t think you will be disappointed, Especially if you are wanting to mount a Refractor on it. The mount will likely be adequate for the Newtonian you have as well, you will just need different mounting rings/brackets for each of your scopes. The mount is good general purpose affordable mount.
I have also bought items from Bintel with no issues. for New Zealand you can always pop into the Natures Discovery in Christchurch on Riccarton Road, they supply Skywatcher product and you may be able to get way without paying shipping fee from Australia, might be worth a look, there is also ASTRONZ in Auckland that stock IOptron Mounts that are just getting better and better in terms of quality.
All the best in the purchase of your new mount.
